Community Mental Health Awareness Conference

Some of our seniors with Impact Prevention, a program empowering young people to support their peers, participated in Ohio University - Southern's inaugural Community Mental Health Awareness Conference on Friday, October 6th.  The conference addressed the far reaching implications for mental health and wellness for students, educators, and communities.  They listened to keynote speakers, Dr. Jim Harris, and retired MLB player, Brandon Guyer.  Dr. Harris talked about supporting young people in a complicated world.  The students attended a breakout session with Eddie Neel, Impact Prevention for Lawrence and Scioto Counties, about the value of youth-led prevention in positive mental health promotion.  Valley High School students spoke about their personal experience with Impact Prevention at VHS.  In the afternoon session, Brandon Guyer presented Major League Mindset, a program about empowering athletes with a mindset enabling them to consistently show up to be the best version of themselves.  It was a wonderful experience for our students and staff to join together to learn and collaborate for positive change.
